Transfer videos from your desktop without wires
Go to
Google Play and search for AirDroid. The app is free to use and perfectly safe
so all you have to do is install it as normal and wait for the process to
complete. This solution will cut out the need for any USB cables or physical
connections.
Open the app and you will be asked to enter one of two URLs in a desktop browser. We would suggest using the second one as this has proved to be very stable in our tests. Make sure that Wi-Fi is enabled on your Samsung device and desktop.
Make sure you have a file browser open and that you can see the AirDroid screen. Now choose the file you want and drag it over to the bottom black box on the right of the screen. Simply let it go and the transfer process will begin.
If the video is large the transfer process could take some time to complete, but a handy progress meter displays the percentage completed. The process is slightly slower than using a wired connection, but it’s worth the convenience of connecting with ease.
The video file will be placed in the AirDroid folder on your expansion card, but you can use the app to cut it and then paste it into the standard Videos folder. This will ensure that it can be found by the apps that you want to play it in.
There
are many options available if you want to transfer videos from a desktop PC to
your Samsung device. Android File
Transfer, available from www.android.com/filetransfer/,
is recommended for most Samsung
devices and offers a simple file view of
your device folders which you can drag and
drop videos to. It is very reliable, but there have
been some connectivity issues suffered on
some phones so we will be looking at a different
option. Some manufacturers, such as
Samsung, bundle their own software for managing
media from a desktop and your mileage
may vary with these, but they are fully
featured and will give you all of the options
you need. For this
tutorial, however, we are going to use
AirDroid which lets you transfer large files without
the need to physically connect your device
to a desktop. Setting it up is a breeze and
in our tests it worked on every single device. It is also quite quick when
dealing with large
files, but a wired connection will always
have a speed advantage.
1: Get the app
2: Time to connect
Open the app and you will be asked to enter one of two URLs in a desktop browser. We would suggest using the second one as this has proved to be very stable in our tests. Make sure that Wi-Fi is enabled on your Samsung device and desktop.
3: Transfer a video
Make sure you have a file browser open and that you can see the AirDroid screen. Now choose the file you want and drag it over to the bottom black box on the right of the screen. Simply let it go and the transfer process will begin.
4: Taking some time
If the video is large the transfer process could take some time to complete, but a handy progress meter displays the percentage completed. The process is slightly slower than using a wired connection, but it’s worth the convenience of connecting with ease.
5: Move it around
The video file will be placed in the AirDroid folder on your expansion card, but you can use the app to cut it and then paste it into the standard Videos folder. This will ensure that it can be found by the apps that you want to play it in.
